Protecting the Earth is important for MPL and they recognize their responsibility to make the communities they work and live in, and the world, a better place
MPL has focused their resources and partners to ensure that the design, construction and operation of the facility has the smallest footprint possible; to be fully compliant with all applicable local, state, and federal and international regulations; and importantly, to make a positive contribution to the community around them.
MPL is aligning its business and operating practices with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and will also adhere to the requirements of the Equator Principles.
Responsibly bridging U.S. natural gas to Asian Markets
MPL is protecting the earth and improving human health by providing safe, clean burning natural gas as an alternative to other energy sources. Natural gas emits up to 55% lower greenhouse gas emissions and less than 1/10th of the air pollutants than coal when used in electricity generation.
MPL’s Leadership Team has extensive LNG experience that provides the knowledge base to optimize design and operating choices, and has consciously selected the best social and environmental solutions to achieve these goals through the following actions and pledges:
UN SDG Goal 7: Clean & Affordable Energy
UN SDG Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
UN SDG Goal 9: Build Responsible & Resilient Infrastructure
UN SDG Goal 13: Combat Climate Change
Providing Oversight, Protecting Individuals, and Respecting All
MPL will establish the following systems to reinforce a culture of compliance:

MPL is protecting the earth and improving human health by providing safe, clean burning natural gas as an alternative to other energy sources. Natural gas emits up to 55% lower greenhouse gas emissions and less than 1/10th of the air pollutants than coal when used in electricity generation.
MPL’s Leadership Team has extensive LNG experience that provides the knowledge base to optimize design and operating choices, and has consciously selected the best social and environmental solutions to achieve these goals through the following actions and pledges:
UN SDG Goal 7: Clean & Affordable Energy
- MPL’s anchor project introduces 14.1 mtpa of new LNG capacity to the market as an alternative to coal in power generation
- Long term, cost-effective supply contracts promote energy security through safe and reliable supply
UN SDG Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Over 24,000 meaningful jobs will be created during construction and operations
- Expenditures are estimated at almost $50 billion over life of the project
UN SDG Goal 9: Build Responsible & Resilient Infrastructure
- No endangered species or vegetation on site
- Construction style and technology choice uses less raw materials
- Life of facility averages 25 years
- Air cooled facility substantially reduces water consumption
- Raw materials recycling program will be implemented
UN SDG Goal 13: Combat Climate Change
- High efficiency gas turbine selection lowers plant emissions
- The APCI technology selected for the liquefaction process allows for fewer pieces of equipment, requires less piping, and accommodates a smaller facility footprint
- Full containment tank selection lowers plant emissions
- Condensate and waste heat recapture lowers plant emissions
- Boil off gas will be recaptured and used as fuel for power generation or re-liquefied
- Existing nearby natural deep-water port avoids dredging or breakwater requirements and associated high impact marine disruption
- Shorter shipping route to Asia lowers emissions from shipping
- No new natural gas reserves will be developed specifically for export as supply is sourced from nearby Permian and surrounding basins
- Procuring natural gas from Permian and surrounding basins provides producers with an alternative to flaring
- Using existing under-utilized pipeline infrastructure minimizes land impact
Providing Oversight, Protecting Individuals, and Respecting All
MPL will establish the following systems to reinforce a culture of compliance:
- Governance practices to ensure compliance with all U.S., Mexico, and international laws and regulations
- Diversity and inclusion is key to success, and MPL’s management team spans multiple cultures, genders and geographical locations. Recruiting plans and salary structures will further support this focus.
- MPL’s supply chain strategy will incorporate a review of and requirement from vendors that materials and equipment are not sourced from workers that suffer from unfair wages, poor working conditions, unreasonable hours, child labor, or lack of benefits
- Strict adherence to Foreign Corrupt Practices Act through MPL’s policies and procedures
